Connectors

Connectors are organically shaped porcelain objects that morph into rubber cords. Similar to an electrical adaptor, the porcelain plug is considered the "male" transmitter, while the rubber receiver is the "female", fitting into one another. Considering the function of an electrical cord to circulate power and information, my intention for Connectors is to create curious tools that propose the function of an input/output devise, or receptor. Similarly, Connectors also relate to medical tools, such as stethoscopes that explore the body by transmitting and magnifying information. Going inside the body, I consider both the spinal and umbilical cords as fundamental links, from brain to nerve endings, and lifeline from mother to child. Whether found inside the body, used as tools on the outside looking in, or computer fire wires and other electronic hardware, all of these cords are transmitters of meaning and links of connectivity. However ironic, these Connectors only fit into each other, rendering their apparent function useless, except to itself, proposing an autoerotic function. These objects operate on the intersection between organic and manufactured, paralleling this space between the body and technology.
